Poling attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical and Health Education, and later completed his Master’s degree in Educational Administration at Salem University.

He lives in Philippi, West Virginia, with his wife Kelsey and their four children — Zola (6), Eiley (3), Clayton (1), and Shepherd (1).
